Nikan Restaurant
Mechanical Services Upgrade & Kitchen Ventilation
Status: Completed – September 2025
Project Scope
The scope of works included the design, installation, and commissioning of mechanical services systems throughout the refurbished restaurant.
Mechanical & Ventilation Works
Additional mechanical services works included:
• Modification and installation of mechanical ductwork systems
• Installation of linear bar grilles and air distribution fittings
• Installation of fire dampers and smoke dampers in accordance with fire safety requirements
• Installation of kitchen exhaust plenums and ventilation connections
• Coordination of mechanical services within the architectural ceiling and kitchen layout
All mechanical installations were carried out to ensure efficient airflow distribution, reliable operation, and compliance with the building’s fire and ventilation requirements.
Air Conditioning Systems
• Installation of new air conditioning systems servicing the upstairs dining area
• Supply and installation of ducted air conditioning units and associated distribution systems
• Installation of ductwork, insulation, diffusers, and architectural grilles
• Integration of systems to provide balanced air distribution and improved thermal comfort within dining spaces
• Installation of control systems to allow independent operation and temperature adjustment
The upgraded systems were designed to maintain consistent indoor temperatures and improved air circulation, ensuring a comfortable environment for restaurant patrons and staff.
Commissioning & Compliance
Upon completion of the installation works, HVAC Industries carried out full system commissioning including:
• Air balancing and ventilation performance testing
• Verification of airflow rates and system operation
• Preparation and delivery of Operating & Maintenance manuals
• Provision of as-built drawings and documentation
• Final commissioning in accordance with NCC requirements and relevant ventilation standards
Kitchen Exhaust & Ventilation Systems
A key component of the project involved upgrading the commercial kitchen exhaust system to improve heat extraction and ventilation performance. Works included:
• Relocation of the main kitchen exhaust fan to improve airflow efficiency
• Installation of kitchen exhaust plenums and grease-rated ductwork
• Installation of commercial kitchen exhaust hoods and extraction systems designed to capture heat, smoke, grease vapours generated during cooking
• Installation of make-up air to balance ventilation and maintain correct pressure between kitchen and dining areas
• Installation of fire-rated kitchen exhaust ductwork systems where required
These systems ensure the kitchen environment maintains safe working conditions, proper heat extraction, and compliance with relevant ventilation standards.
Project Outcome
The completed mechanical services upgrade significantly improved indoor comfort within the restaurant’s dining areas while ensuring the kitchen ventilation systems operate efficiently and safely. The project demonstrates HVAC Industries’ capability to deliver mechanical services upgrades within hospitality environments, where kitchen heat loads, ventilation performance, and customer comfort must all be carefully balanced. Through detailed coordination and high-quality installation, HVAC Industries delivered a reliable and efficient mechanical system that supports the ongoing operation of one of Sydney’s established Persian dining venues.
